Happy Hump Day! We're officially halfway through week two, which also means we have two more days until our first deliverable is due. Despite the fact that crunch time has begun, spirits are still high and the puns are still infinite. We gathered at Arun's house around 10AM, and Kiana was on time for the second day in a row! I don't want to jinx it, but I think this is the beginning of a new era.
Anyways, with our laptops at the ready, we got down to work. I think every member of JAVAK has had their frustrating moments, and today saw plenty of them, but I have to say, I couldn't be working with a more determined group of people. Whether it be debugging, or software glitches, or lost files, we’ve managed to keep the momentum going, and the game is really coming along!
First up, The CAD Team.

First up, The CAD Team.
I recorded and edited the videos for two tutorials today. The first was an intro to the CAD program and the basic tools. The second was building a door handle that will be a missing piece our player has to make. Making the tutorials turned out to be much more complicated than I thought it would be, and at this point I’m using four different programs to make them, at least one of which is always plotting against me. I have a method now though, and hopefully I can get one of the bigger tutorials done tomorrow.
Kiana was hard at work on the GUI for the tutorials, which is becoming increasingly more awesome as the days go by. She added the two tutorials that I made today, added a playback function for the videos, and fixed a problem we were having with the quality of the videos when they were uploaded to Unity. She also worked on some of the functions in the GUI, including one that checks whether a player’s answer is correct. I’m constantly in awe at how much this girl manages to get done, MVP over here.
Next, Graphics, with Ashley and Jenny

Despite the occasional frustrating moments, these two continue to smile and crack up during the day, which is always a mood booster. Jenny started modelling the first floor of the warehouse with the various models she and Ashley have been creating. Ashley was working on a couple of those models today, including a propane tank and a teleporter (it’s a futuristic warehouse, there are no rules!). The two of them also made a layout of the second floor of the warehouse.
And of course, Player Controls, with Arun.

Arun has been putting a lot of the pieces together and is constantly working to ensure that the game will run smoothly. Today he finished the walls of the first level, including an air duct system. He’s also working on the menu screen for the game and putting the models that have been created so far into the first level.
Hopefully by the end of the week we’ll have combined what we have so far and incorporated Kiana’s GUI into the rest of the game. It looks like everything is starting to come together, and we're looking forward to meeting up at Autodesk tomorrow, where a large box of Sour Patch Kids awaits our return.
And of course, the traditionally daily selfie.
