We were lacking in the picture department today, so today’s post will be relatively short and sweet.
First up…
THE CAD TEAM.
After overcoming the initial struggle of finicky software and frame-by-frame editing, Kiana is quickly mastering the video tutorials. Today she worked on editing the tutorial for the elevator counterweight, one of our most complicated pieces, and adding it to the tutorial GUI. She’s also been working hard to ensure that the GUI still runs smoothly with every tutorial we add, and they are quickly adding up!
I (Violet) jumped between levels 2 and 3 today. I modeled a simple key for the elevator in level 2 and made up a quick blueprint for it. Definitely the easiest part we have, but still important -- it’s the first piece the player will be making with much less guidance from us. The goal for the game is to give the player the skills to be CAD wizards, so Kiana and I have started moving away from very detailed tutorials. As the player dives into level three, he or she will start getting picture tutorials instead of videos, and eventually just a blueprint. Today I jumped ahead and worked on picture tutorials for some of our level 3 models.
Arun - who’s been nicknamed the middleman, since a big part of his job is putting all the pieces together - focused on setting up the tutorial locations for level 2 today. He also finished importing the level and connecting it to level 1, and worked on the player’s inventory.
If you missed the last post, Ashley has been working on a robotic arm for level 3, and today she made a few alternate models for it. She also started working on a second robot for the factory, which we're nuts (and bolts) about! The futuristic aspect of the game is definitely coming into play.
Jenny continued modeling level 3 and bringing the level to life, which included animating our door. I have to say, the animations are definitely one of the coolest parts of the game. Add in some eerie sound effects and you’ve got yourself a futuristic, dystopian, escape-the-factory learning game.
Halfway through a week full of robots, toxic waterfalls, and Chipotle, I can definitely say these days are flying by. As the game continues to come together, we're all eager to see what we end up with!
As always, the traditional daily selfie.
